THE BEST APPS OF 2014 (SO FAR)

I was browsing The Huffington Post when I saw the title “The 65 Best Health and Fitness Apps of 2014” and knew I had to take a look! The link led me over to Greatist, a health and fitness site I’ve linked to before. They collected a ton of great apps to help you work out, lose weight, and tease your brain. I’ve shared a few of my favorites below:

Fitocracy

Fitocracy started with the idea that fitness should be fun. And for millenials and Gen-Xers, what’s more fun than video games? Fitocracy lets you track your workouts to earn points, and you “level up” when you reach certain achievements. It has both a web site and an app, and has a community full of workout buffs, trainers, and newbies – so no being intimidated!

Map My Fitness

Maybe weights aren’t your thing. Maybe you like to get outside to get your workout. Map My Fitness is there to help! This GPS-based fitness app tracks all sorts of data, like speed, pace, distance, route, and elevation. Afterwards, you can view your map, check your stats, and share your workout. Perfect for those who prefer the great outdoors over the gym!

My Fitness Pal

So you’re trying to lose weight, and having a hard time. My Fitness Pal is there for you! This community based calorie tracker helps you monitor food and exercise, and provides a community full of support for your efforts. Plus, their food library is huge, and users can add their own recipes as well. What’s not to like?

Duolingo

Embarrassed by your diminished Spanish? Don’t dare to say Bonjour because you’ve lost your accent? Does your Auf Wiedersehen make others say Gesundheit? It may be time to take a look at Duolingo, a language learning app that teaches users to write, read, listen, and speak in a new language. Thirty four hours using the app is equal to one semester-long class – so go on! Try your hand at a new language, or improve your skills in an old one! They currently offer Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Portuguese, so what are you waiting for?

Greatist has 60 more apps on their list of best of 2014, so go take a look, and tell me which ones you decide to use! In the meantime, I’ll be brushing up on my Spanish. Adios amigos!
